At Tandem Paris-Tokyo 2018, a wide variety of cultural events were held at cultural facilities in both cities to promote the revitalisation of cultural exchange between the Japanese and French capitals. In Tokyo, a total of eight programmes were carried out, including a showcase performance at the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre, an art deco exhibition at the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum and an exhibition of French artisans influenced by Japanese culture at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum as well as music and dance events in Shibuya, Daikanyama, etc. designed to give the feeling of a weekend in Paris. In Paris, an exhibition introducing Japanese Art Brut, a demonstration of Edo-period karakuri dolls and the "FUROSHIKI PARIS" event were carried out. For "FUROSHIKI PARIS", a furoshiki-wrapped pavilion representing “a gift from Tokyo to Paris” was set up in front of Paris’s Hôtel de Ville. Through exhibitions, installations and workshops, we were able to showcase the diverse appeal of furoshiki. The city of Paris also organised a digital art programme that included a collaboration between French and Japanese artists.
