SUPER WALL ART TOKYO started from a desire to create a work instilled with a symbolic message that demonstrates to the world the fascinating culture and art of Japan, and that will make people look back even decades later and say, “That was amazing.” COVID-19 has changed many of our values and the way we see the world. However, the powerful message emanating from this artwork is universal, and could only have been realised by the pair of YOKOO Tadanori and Mimi. This project has made me realise that art is truly amazing. I believe that art is about the exploration of human nature, and I feel that this work has shown us the real power behind art. Hosokawa NaoyaThey used to say that the real thrill of attending live theatre is in being able to almost feel every breath of the performers. But this kind of experience has been difficult to have in a world with COVID-19, and so we compensated for this through the use of technologies, such as streaming video. I believe this has resulted in an interesting way of seeing the stage that differs from actually being at the theatre, such as by having the cameras capture the performers at really close range, taking close-ups shot from angles that seem to cling to them. We experience astonishment and new emotions when trivial aspects of our realities are presented from alternative perspectives that had not been seen before. I think that is what art is all about. I would like to move forward in this radically changed world that we live in by searching for what we can do through art. Kawaguchi TakaoWill it be possible to host a music festival in these COVID-19 times? This question stayed in our minds because we were constantly pursued by the possibility of cancellation as we proceeded with our plans. Our first and foremost concern was to avoid and prevent the spread of infection, and the performers and support staff were all taking this into consideration. But once the performance started, the result was a dramatic burst of artistic expressions going head-to-head with one another that created an experience that surmounted the current realities we face. And when I saw the audience members leaving with smiles of true enjoyment on their faces, I knew that we will be able to move on to the next step since we had been able to manage this one. The performers will perform, and the support staff will take heed of audience reactions to move forward, which in turn will lead to the next performance. This is the loop that we wish to create for the future of the SaLaD MUSIC FESTIVAL.TOKYO MET SaLaD MUSIC FESTIVAL(commonly known as SaLaD MUSIC FESTIVAL)東京都交響楽団演奏統括部Artistic Management Department, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra舘岡 吾弥 さんTateoka GoyaTokyo Tokyo FESTIVAL スペシャル13 「東京大壁画」 「東京大壁画」は、日本の文化・芸術の素晴らしさを世界に発信し、何十年後でも「あれはすごかった」と思い出してもらえるシンボリックなメッセージを込めたいというのが企画の出発点でした。 Voice of Organisers
