We gave a performance in 2021 while taking measures against the spread of infection. Although we asked our audience to remain seated during the performance, we also included elements in the programme that would let them enjoy the stage in a bi-directional manner to give them a sense of participating in the performance. The ties that connect people together seem to be weakening in these times of COVID-19, but we created a programme with the aim of helping us realise what is truly important in our lives. The theatre awakens when there are artists to perform there, and comes to life when there is an audience to experience the performance. I think children have a chance to discover something that is very precious by meeting other adults and children who have different perspectives. I think the same could be said not only for us but for many museums around the world. This is just one example, but I think people would rather not attend exhibits that are extremely crowded. However, that doesn’t mean that they do not want to go to museums at all. What makes us humans is our culture. And it is especially in these kinds of times when society is exhausted that people look to get more out of museums. We need to be able to respond to these social needs. We aim to improve the quality of all areas of our business with a new perspective.Exhibition/ Special exhibition江戸東京博物館副館長Deputy Director, Edo-Tokyo Museum小林 淳一 さんKobayashi Junichi143TOKYO MET SaLaD MUSIC FESTIVAL(愛称：サラダ音楽祭) 2021年は感染症拡大防止対策に取り組みながら公演を行いました。お客さまには、着席してご鑑賞いただきつつも、公演の内容は双方向･参加型で楽しめる演出を取り入れました。コロナ禍において人とのつながりが薄れがちですが、本当に大切なものは何かということを気づかせてくれる内容を目指しました。劇場は、アーティストがいることで息をして、それを感じ取る聴衆がいて、初めて血が通った場所となります。多様性が求められる社会において、様々な方にアートを伝え、新しい魅力やワクワクを届けられる、そんな存在になれたらと思います。パフォーマンスキッズ・トーキョー アーティストと子供たちの出会いの場を提供していますが、毎回新しい発見があって、飽きることがありません。子供には元々たくさんの可能性があって、それがいつも出会わない大人と出会うことで引き出されるのだと思います。一つの作品をつくりあげる時間を共有することで、人とつながることの大切さや表現することの楽しさを味わうことが可能です。自分とは違う価値観の大人や子供との出会いは、かけがえのない何かを見つける時間になると思います。これからも、子供たちが表現する場をつくっていきたいと思います。企画展・特別展 今回の新型コロナウイルスは、改めて自分たちの博物館のことを見つめ直す機会になっています。当館だけでなく、世界中の多くの美術館・博物館も同様と思います。一例ですが、混雑極まる展覧会などはあまり望まれなくなるのではないでしょうか。ただ、博物館・美術館がなくてもいいかというとそれは違う。人間を人間たらしめるものは文化です。社会が疲弊しているときにこそ、かえって博物館に求められるものは多く、私たちはその社会的要請に応えなければなりません。新たな視点をもって、あらゆる事業の“質の向上”をさらに目指したいと考えます。
