We conducted extensive research on people and places, and through the experience we came up with a rough image of the source of culture. With this “map” in hand, we then ventured out across and outside Japan to gain practical experience in our effort to capture culture’s true essence. By creating a vessel that everyone could board, we voyaged into the great ocean, eventually landing on the continent that has been the source of culture creation. Along with everyone we interacted with, we investigated and affirmed our lands and seas, putting ourselves at the root of the energy that was the source of the foundation of culture. I believe we succeeded in shedding light on the roles expected to be played by culture and its way forward at this pivotal turning point in the history of lifestyle. The Creative Wellbeing Tokyo Project, Tokyo’s new cultural policy, draws extensively on the experience accumulated through the TURN project. In the world of the future where we aim to be more open-minded to diverse values, I believe art will become an even more important means of empowering people to lead fulfilling lives. I intend to further develop TURN to contribute in this regard. TURNの活動は、いかに人間が文化を生み出してきたのか？を私たち人間が改めて自問自答し、人に対して、場に対して、数多くのリサーチをし、そして、その体験から見えてくる文化の源泉のイメージを描き、その地図を元に、文化の素の姿を捉えるために国内外での実践、体験を蓄積し、船というみんなで乗れる装置を作り、大海原に漕ぎ出し、文化を生み出してきた源の大陸に上陸し、関わってきた人たちでその大地をその海域を互いに調査、確認することにより、文化の基盤となるエネルギーの根源に立って、人類史上の大きな生活様式の変革の潮目である現在に於いて、文化のこれからの役割、ありようを文化のこれからの進むべき方向性を、示すことができたと考えています。次の東京の文化政策クリエイティブ・ウェルビーイング・トーキョーにおいては、TURNの経験値も大きく生かされています。より価値が多様化していき、それを受け入れ合うことを目指す未来社会において、更にアートは重要な人間の生きる力に直結していくと考えており、TURNの活動をより発展させていきます。144TURN Reflecting on Tokyo Tokyo FESTIVAL東京文化評議会評議員Members of Tokyo Arts and Culture CommitteeTURN Tokyo Tokyo FESTIVALを振り返って
