1 現代アートチーム 目 [mé]により、2021年の東京を舞台に年齢や性別・国籍を問わず世界中から広く顔を募集し、選ばれた「実在する一人の顔」を東京の空に浮かべました。目 [mé]の一員であり、各地の美術館で独創性と創造性に満ちた作品を発表し、活躍を続けるアーティストである荒神明香が中学生のときに見た夢に着想を得ており、多くの方々と作品の意味や本質を共有しながらプロジェクトを進めました。 2019年3月から顔候補を集める「顔収集ワークショップ」を行い、同年6月には顔を選ぶための「顔会議」を実施。顔会議での議論を経て、直接又はメディア等を通じて間接的に目撃する世界中の人からの視線をはね返し、東京の風景に埋もれない顔を最終的にアーティストが選定。浮上は、2021年7月に代々木、8月に隅田川周辺で実施しましたが、“遭遇的”な作品との出会いを通して「それぞれの主体的な体験を重視したい」というアーティストの思いから、浮上日時や場所を事前に公表せずに実施しました。 巨大な顔が、突如として東京の空に浮かぶという、その謎めいた圧倒的な景色は、多くの人々に衝撃をもたらし、大きな話題を呼びました。Contemporary art team 目 [mé] recruited individuals representing different countries, genders, and ages and from them selected “one face existing in the real world” to float in the sky above Tokyo in 2021. The project idea was inspired by a dream that KOJIN Haruka, a member of 目 [mé] whose original and creative works have been presented at museums around the world, had when she was in junior high school. The project proceeded while sharing the meaning and essence of the work with many people. From March 2019, “Face Collecting Workshops” were conducted to collect candidate faces, and a “Face Meeting” was held in June of the same year to select the final face. Following discussions at the Face Meeting, the artists ultimately selected the face that would emerge from the scenery of Tokyo to attract the gazes of people all around the world, who would observe it either directly or indirectly through the media. The floating face was implemented in Yoyogi in July 2021 and near the Sumida River in August, however the final floating date, time and location were not publicly disclosed beforehand out of the desire of the artists to “emphasise each independent experience” through encounters with the work.
