The World Performing Arts Forum is a project intended to highlight the importance of intangible cultural heritage and its inheritance and development by introducing performing arts from six countries on five continents listed in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity as well as from three prefec-tures in Tohoku (Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima) with a wish to promote the reconstruction of the region. However the original plan was to showcase performing arts from various countries at a festival that was to be held at Hibiya Park, the plan was cancelled due to the COVID-19 and the event was recast as a forum. In locally produced videos, experts introduced unique forms of folk performing arts of each the six countries while at the venue spectators enjoyed a powerful Japanese drum performance as an opening act by a Tokyo taiko drumming group along with fascinating footage of a dynamic dance performed by organisations from the three Tohoku prefectures. For the panel session, invited speakers H.E. Demon Kakka, TAKEUCHI Kanae and OISHI Hajime talked about the importance and appeal of intangible cultural heritage from various perspectives based on their own knowledge and experience.
