The Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra held the TOKYO MET SaLaD MUSIC FESTIVAL in collaboration with the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre and Toshima City, with the Ikebukuro area as the location of the main venue. The SaLaD Music Festival first started in 2018 as an event to allow everyone to experience and express the joy of music. SaLaD is founded on the concepts from which its name was derived, “Sing and Listen and Dance,” and consists of a wide range of fresh content such as orchestral concerts that can be enjoyed by babies and adults alike. In 2021, the main programme featured an orchestra performance conducted by ONO Kazushi, the music director of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, which consisted of two programmes: “OK! Orchestra,” which was open to guests of all ages including babies, and the “Music Festival Main Concert” featuring a variety of brilliant performers. Dance companies such as the Condors and Noism Company Niigata collaborated for each of the programmes, creating new appeal for classical music through physical expression. Also, an opera for young audiences called “Gold!” that is being performed all over Europe made its premier in Japan, planned and produced by the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre.
