This collection is a set of ukiyo-e woodblock prints. Ukiyo-e woodblock prints are fascinating depictions of the landscape and people’s lives during the Edo period. Ukiyo-e, which is literally “pictures of the real world,” were very popular in the Edo period. They also had a very large influence on European painters in the latter half of the 19th century.

The shrine located by the riverside, surrounded by trees, enshrines the water deity of the Sumida River. Beyond the cherry blossoms planted along the embankment, the scene opens toward Masaki on the opposite shore and Mount Tsukuba in the distance.

A view from the Yanagibashi area toward Ryōgokubashi Bridge, its vista opening onto Atake and Fukagawa. In the Edo period, summertime fireworks displays were permitted only along the Sumida River.

A view of the Boys' Festival at Surugadai as seen from Hongō Plateau. The observation tower of Edo Castle is visible at the center left. Koi carp streamers, seemingly poised to swim away at any moment, fill the frame, while the rooftops of samurai residences and Mount Fuji extend into the distance.

Kaian-ji, the temple of Fudarakusan in Samezu, Shinagawa, is a popular spot for viewing autumn leaves, attracting many visitors in late autumn. The work depicts a mother and her child enjoying the vibrant autumn foliage within the temple grounds.

品川鮫洲の寺院・補陀落山海案寺は紅葉の名所として、晩秋の頃になると遊客が訪れて賑わった｡境内の紅葉を楽しむ母子づれの姿が描かれている。

The name Kiba in Fukagawa traced back to the Genroku era (1688–1704), when timber dealers and log-storage yards were established on shogunate granted land.

深川の木場は、元禄年間（1688～1704）に幕府払下げ地に材木問屋や貯木場が形成されたことから、その地名がついた。

Zōjō‑ji Temple prospered alongside Kan’ei‑ji in Ueno as a family temple of the Tokugawa clan and was renowned for its grand temple architecture. The scene shows people visiting the temple as snow lies thick on the ground.

増上寺は、上野の寛永寺とともに徳川家の菩提寺として隆盛を誇り、壮大な伽藍建築で知られた。雪の降り積もるなか、人々が参詣する様子が描かれる。

This triptych is a collaborative work by Utagawa Toyokuni Ⅲ and Utagawa Hiroshige. This nishiki-e (brocade print) depicts a scene from Nise Muraksaki Inaka Genji, published between 1829 and 1842.

歌川豊国（3代）と歌川広重による合作の3枚続。『偐紫田舎源氏』（1829～1842年刊行）の一場面を錦絵化したものである。
One Hundred Famous Views of Edo: Clear Morning After Snow at Nihonbashi Bridge

This work depicts Edo Castle and Mount Fuji beyond Nihonbashi Bridge. The Nihonbashi River and the fish market are crowded with boats and people passing through. Even in the early morning after a snowfall, the area remained lively and bustling.
